The Department of Engineering and Technology offer a wide range of facilities, which fully support the innovative and practical aspects of our teaching and commercial services.

Overview

The Automotive Systems Laboratory provides engine testing facilities and workshop space to support practical and experimental work in the area of automotive engineering. 

The Communications and Electronics Laboratory houses  radio frequency and fibre-optic transmitter and receiver trainers, signal processing modules, feedback consoles and communications trainers.

The Innovative Product Design Centre provides state-of-the-art computer controlled machine-tools for operations such as rapid-prototyping, advanced milling, co-ordinate measurement, and spark erosion. 

The Zwick-Roell Centre is equipped with material testing machines and various machine-tools for material removal and shaping.

The Department also has its own dedicated computer laboratories at the Telford campus, which provide a comprehensive range of advanced industry-standard software packages, including:

• Finite element enalysis software, such as ANSYS
• Computational fluid dynamics software FLUENT
• Engine design software BOOST
• Engineering systems design and control software
• MATLAB - a dynamic-systems analysis packages
• ProEngineer
• Solidworks
• Delcam Powershape and Powermill 
• MPLAB - Microcontroller system design and simulation software

Through our partnership arrangements with the Defence College of Aeronautics Engineering in Cosford, our students have access to the world leading facilities of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and may spend up to two weeks in the prestigiously equipped facilities in the first year of their engineering course.
