Green economist to visit University

An expert in industrial policy and ‘green’ economics will be visiting the University of Wolverhampton for a guest lecture.

James Meadway from the new economics foundation (nef) will present a Management Research Centre seminar on Wednesday, 2 May 2012.

The event will be held in the University’s Chaplaincy (MP Building), City Campus North at 1.15pm.

Head of the Management Research Centre at the University of Wolverhampton, Professor Mike Haynes, said: “The issue of sustainability has to be at the heart of any recovery programme. The new economics foundation is playing a leading role in challenging us to put people first and this will be a good opportunity to hear the arguments about how sustainability can assist recovery rather than work against it.”

Founded in 1986 the nef is an independent think tank focusing on sustainable national and international development which has played a leading role in putting both green and other critical issues on the UK political agenda.

James Meadway is a nef economist who works principally on the modelling of a just and sustainable macro economy as part of The Great Transition initiative. He has worked as a policy advisor at HM Treasury, where he covered regional development, science and innovation policy, and worked on the Barker Review of planning. Most recently, he was a senior policy advisor at the Royal Society.

The Management Research Centre is part of the University of Wolverhampton Business School.
