Olympic medallist Steve Cram to present guest lecture

Former Olympic medallist and broadcaster Steve Cram MBE is visiting the University of Wolverhampton to present an inspirational talk.

An Audience with Steve Cram will take place on Thursday, 19 January 2012 from 9am until 11am.

Steve will talk about making the most of mentors and coaches, and take part in a Q&A session.

The free event, which is open to University staff, students and invited guests, will take place in room MC001 at the Wolverhampton City Campus.

Helen Lloyd Wildman, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Corporate Services, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Steve Cram MBE to the University during the year of the London Olympics.

“I’m sure his insights into how he has met and overcome obstacles in his career, his thoughts on what motivates him to succeed and the impact of mentors and coaches will be interesting and thought provoking."

During his career, Steve Cram set world records in the 1500 metres, 2000 metres and the mile and was the first man to run 1500 metres in under three minutes and 30 seconds.

Notable achievements include winning the 1500 metres gold medal at the 1983 World Championships and also the 1500 metres silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games.

Voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1983, Steve is now the BBC's chief athletics commentator.

He is also Chancellor of the University of Sunderland and an Ambassador for Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank.
