University continues to partner with national law firm

The mentoring scheme will provide an opportunity for final year undergraduates and LPC students to gain guidance and advice from local professionals as they look to embark on their legal careers.

Over a six month period, students will meet monthly with their mentor at DWF’s Birmingham office to seek career advice, receive guidance on training contract selection and gain a better understanding of the legal profession.

Chris Umfreville, LPC course leader at Wolverhampton Law School, added: “For students who are preparing to begin their careers in legal practice, having the opportunity to work closely with local professionals is an invaluable resource.

“They have worked hard to gain the skills and knowledge they need to be successful as they transition into work, so complementing that with career advice from individuals who have been through the process is an added advantage.

“We saw great results from the scheme last year and look forward to continued success through our partnership with DWF.”

DWF lawyer Simon Price, who developed the scheme, explains that the programme gives students the unique opportunity to engage with local legal practitioners on a one-to-one basis. He said: “We strongly believe in working closely with the next generation of legal professionals to ensure that they have the guidance and confidence they need to achieve their goals after university.

“It’s rewarding for our lawyers to be able to make a real difference to graduates.”

The programme was launched with a drinks reception for mentors, students and university staff at DWF’s Birmingham office on Wednesday 19 November 2014.
