Top accreditation for Pharmacy course

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) awarded the University full accreditation for the next six years for the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree course.

This follows a re-accreditation visit by the GPhC in June. The process of accreditation is designed to ensure that the MPharm course meets the relevant GPhC standards, accreditation criteria and training policies, particularly as these relate to patient safety.

Head of Pharmacy, Professor Stephen Britland, said: “Receiving re-accreditation for six years is testament to the dedication and hard work of staff to ensure an excellent standard of teaching on the University of Wolverhampton’s MPharm course.

“Pharmacy is a challenging and rewarding career, and the course equips students with the knowledge and skills to advise patients and fellow healthcare professionals on the safe and effective use of medicines.

“We are delighted to have achieved this accreditation from the GPhC.”

Gaining the MPharm qualification allows students to enter pre-registration training which is the gateway to becoming a registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Qualified registered Pharmacists may subsequently be employed in a variety of sectors including retail, hospital, industrial pharmacy and regulatory affairs. Employment rates for Wolverhampton Pharmacy graduates entering pre-registration training continues to be 100%.

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the statutory regulator for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and is the accrediting body for pharmacy education in Great Britain. The GPhC is responsible for setting standards and approving education and training courses which form part of the pathway towards registration for pharmacists.
