The Centre for Developmental and Applied Research in Education (CeDARE) is at the heart of a vibrant research culture in the School of Education. Our mission is to promote high quality developmental and applied research of regional, national and international standing in order to underpin learning, teaching, and consultancy work in education, inform policy, enhance professional practice, development and innovation.

CeDARE’s research activities include evaluation and impact studies longitudinal research, consultancy and support to develop teachers and their capacity to undertake research and enquiry. Recent funders have included national bodies such as the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA); Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK); Aim Higher; the Teacher Development Agency (TDA); the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC), and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Regional funders have included Education Walsall and the Walsall Primary Care Trust. Researchers have been involved in a wide variety of projects aimed at enhancing and supporting learning and teaching, and enhancing provision in the educare sector. Projects have researched areas such as curriculum innovation; e-learning and e-pedagogy; reducing childhood obesity; and the experience of disabled students in the higher education system.

We offer PhD study for home and overseas students and, in collaboration with the Institute for Learning Enhancement, a Doctorate in Education (EdD) with a route for those specialising in higher education.
