27/06/2013

OCNWMR - Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, Professor Geoff Layer and CEO of the Open College Network West Midlands Region Chris Assheton signing the progression information documents agreement.Access courses are designed for adults who want to start on a path into higher education either to pursue a particular career or who want to enjoy learning at a higher level and look forward to the greater opportunities that this brings.

The courses prepare students with the study skills that they need together with knowledge in a range of subject areas.

The University of Wolverhampton works closely with a large number of partner colleges and supports the progression of access to higher education for students moving into the University.

The University has now signed Progression Information documents with the Open College Network West Midlands Region. (OCNWMR)

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, Professor Geoff Layer and Chief Executive of OCNWMR Chris Assheton signed the agreement, which is designed to promote progression into and through higher education across the West Midlands.

The agreements aim to serve the institutions involved and foster closer collaboration between the colleges offering the diplomas and universities offering degrees.

Professor Layer said: “We have a long tradition of welcoming Access students at the University of Wolverhampton and we want to do all we can to support students continuing their studies to a higher level.

“Each year a large number of Access students join us and we are immensely proud of their achievements. These new progression information documents should make it a lot easier and clearer to make the move to university.

“The other message to reiterate is that it’s not too late for Access students to apply for higher education courses starting in 2013 and further information can be obtained from the University’s information, advice and guidance centre – The Gateway@The George.

“If you would like to have a discussion with someone about your options please get in touch and you can arrange an appointment to talk through all your needs and circumstances.”

Liz Macpherson, Director of Access of OCNWMR, said: “This is an exciting new development that will enable Access students to have a clear understanding of what is required when applying to university and more importantly, how many credits and what grades they will need in order to meet the entry criteria for each degree.

“The progression information will help to enhance their knowledge and understanding of entry criteria for admission into university and will ultimately aid progression as students will be more informed about choices.”
