University chosen as preferred supplier for Degree Apprenticeships

01/08/2017

The University of Wolverhampton has been chosen as a preferred supplier to provide Degree Apprenticeships for two leading public service providers.

The £500,000 Apprenticeship Hub based in the former Feathers Pub in Wolverhampton was successful in its application to join the preferred supplier frameworks for Degree Apprenticeships by Shropshire Council and National Health Service Business Services.

Michele Roberts, Head of the Apprenticeship Hub at the University of Wolverhampton, said; “We’re really pleased to have been successful in our application to potentially work with Shropshire Council and the NHS to deliver Degree Apprenticeship programmes for their staff.

“This is another important milestone for the University’s ambition to provide a range of Degree Apprenticeships, helping employers in the area to use Apprenticeship Levy funds to invest in the skills needed to lead and grow a competitive workforce.”

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for corporate support, said: “The Apprenticeship Levy provides Shropshire Council with a massive opportunity to support our staff to gain valuable training and qualifications relevant to their jobs. This also opens up opportunities for career progression, providing staff with new skills, as well as developing existing skills to furnish them with the confidence and competence to step up to the next level.

“We look forward to working with The University of Wolverhampton.”

Almost 70 students from up and down the country are studying for the Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) with the University’s Faculty of Social Sciences through a three year partnership with leading public sector provider SERCO.  A further cohort of 100 SERCO students will be studying with the University next year.

As well as CMDA from September, the University is offering Higher and Degree Apprenticeships in Construction Management with pathways for Civil Engineering & Built Environment, Chartered Surveying, Digital Technology Solutions Professional, Engineering and Healthcare Science Practitioner.

Future Degree Apprenticeships will include Chartered Legal Executive, Policing, Social Work, Nursing and Paramedic Degree Apprenticeships.
