University lecture highlights role of the Parole Board

06/04/2018

The University of Wolverhampton is hosting a lecture by the former Chief Inspector of Prisons and former Chair of the Parole Board.

Professor Nicholas Hardwick, CBE, will be visiting the University’s School of Social, Historical and Political Studies on Thursday 12th April 2018 in his first public lecture since his resignation in March.

Professor Hardwick has led UK-based charities and criminal justice organisations. Most recently he was chair of the Parole Board for England and Wales from March 2016 until his resignation on 28 March 2018 following a legal challenge to a Parole Board decision to release convicted rapist John Worboys.

The lecture, The Future of the Parole Board, will explore the workings and responsibilities of the Parole Board and the future of English prisons, giving an insider perspective, and will be followed by a question and answer session.

Miceal Barden, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University, said:  “This is a highly anticipated lecture which will be popular with our students studying for a range of Social Sciences courses including Criminology and Criminal Justice as well as Law, Policing and Intelligence, Sociology, Social Policy, Politics and Social Work.”

The FREE lecture will take place in the University’s Mary Seacole Building, City Campus North, Nursery Street, Wolverhampton, WV1 1AD between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm in MH002 Lecture Theatre.  No booking required and the lecture is open to staff, students and members of the public.
