Student research achieves global reach in Bahrain

Research students from the University of Wolverhampton presented at an International Conference on Sustainable Futures in Bahrain recently.

Eight students from the School of Architecture and Built Environment in the Faculty of Science and Engineering successfully reported their research findings at the International Conference on Sustainable Futures.

The Conference was organised by the Applied Science University (ASU), Bahrain, in association with London South Bank University (LSBU), UK and The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) – the professional body for construction management and leadership.

Students submitted research papers which had been peer reviewed by world leading experts in the field of sustainability.  Out of a total of 150 papers which had been submitted, 65 were accepted.

Two students were awarded the best paper prize for their work.

Dr Subashini Suresh, Reader in Construction Management said:  “The presentations at the conference addressed an audience from a wide range of policy makers, practitioners and academics from the public and private sectors with representatives from over 30 countries in attendance.

“The research work presented by our group of students successfully attracted interest from construction professionals around the world, with discussions on future collaboration currently on-going with colleagues from Australia and the United Arab Emirates. The event provided an opportunity for the students to promote their research as well as the University’s teaching programmes.”

Dr Suresh Renukappa, Senior Lecturer and Dr Subashini Suresh, Reader, supervised the student visit which saw the successful students presenting to the conference on a range of topics including renewable energy strategies, pervasive augmented reality in the construction industry, managing knowledge in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia construction industry, building information management (BIM) education in the Dominican Republic, leadership for knowledge management, lean techniques for health and safety management,  BIM for construction management, and equality and diversity of ethnic minority women in the UK construction industry.
