Rising Star students attend global summit

02/05/2018

Two University of Wolverhampton students were invited to a world summit held in London recently.

The third year Construction Management degree students, Jack Hobbs and Mark Stride, were invited guests at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors World Built Environment Forum and Summit held at the O2 Arena in London.

The World Built Environment Forum brings together business leaders, influencers and decision-makers to debate and drive action on the challenges and opportunities shaping the world.

The students are part of RICS’ Rising Star Programme which is creating a talent pool of new professionals and future leaders for the built environment. The programme is designed to inspire the next generation of leaders by enabling them to participate alongside today’s leaders in strategic debate. The initiative bridges the gap between employers and young people, using the Summit of the World Built Environment Forum as a platform to engage.

The two students are studying for a Construction Management degree in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University’s City Campus in Wolverhampton.

Paul Hampton, Head of Built Environment at the University, said:  “This was a great opportunity for the two students giving them an unprecedented opportunity to discuss key challenges across the whole built environment supply chain as well as allowing them access to new contacts and markets and to understand global risks.

“We pride ourselves on offering students industry experience and contact with professional bodies as part of their degree course, focusing not only on academic success but ensuring that they are equipped to enter the world of work.”

Jack Hobbs, 21 from Wolverhampton, said:  “The forum was a great networking event and gave us a marvellous insight into the kinds of things that shape the built environment sector.  We benefited from hearing from a number of speakers and influencers and even had the opportunity to meet the RICS Chief Executive Officer, Sean Tompkins.”

Anyone interested in studying for an Architecture and Built Environment course should register to attend the next Open Day on Saturday 16th June 2018.
