Innovation and the British Army during the First World War will be the focus of a free public lecture at the University of Wolverhampton.

Dr Aimée Fox, winner of the British Army Military Book of the Year prize, will visit the University on Thursday, 1 November 2018.

She will present her lecture, A Recipe for Success? The British Army, Innovation, and the First World War, in room MH002 in the Mary Seacole Building, Wolverhampton, from 5.30-7pm.

Professor of War Studies Gary Sheffield said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Dr Aimée Fox of King’s College London to the University of Wolverhampton to present this guest lecture.

“The lecture will draw on key themes from her book: Learning to Fight: Military Innovation and Change in the British Army, 1914-1918, which won the British Army Military Book of the Year prize for 2018.

“The lecture will consider the importance of ethos, doctrine, and people to the army's ability to learn and innovate during the War. It also seeks to draw out lessons for contemporary UK armed forces, particularly with the recent focus from outgoing and incoming Chiefs of the Defence Staff on the importance of innovation.”

Dr Fox’s lecture will be the 15th and final lecture of the University of Wolverhampton/Western Front Association (WFA) First World War Centenary Lecture Series.

Generously supported by a grant from the WFA, the series is open to the public. Admission is free; but people can register their details in advance with Dr Phylomena Badsey p.badsey@wlv.ac.uk.
