WLVGRAD: PAULINA'S TEACHING IS A CLASS ACT

Paulina Byszewska, originally from Poland but living in the West Midlands for the past 17 years, graduated with a degree in Linguistics and TESOL from the School of Humanities and has already secured a full-time job as a Tutor.

With English being her second language, Paulina had helped employees in her previous role at a recruitment agency, teaching them basic English and realising that, having learned the language, she really enjoyed passing on the knowledge she had acquired.

Whilst she was interested in going to University, she also had reservations.  She said: “As a mother of one child, I was under the impression that I wouldn’t be able to afford it and cope with the expense of studying full-time.

“But when I received advice about all the options available and reading about the degree and the prospects of getting a career after graduation, I decided to enrol and this was one of the best moves I’ve made to better mine and my son’s life.”

Paulina found that balancing family life and studying was challenging but she liked how close the University was to where she lived and thought that the facilities on offer at City Campus were excellent.

“My biggest achievement so far, aside from giving birth to my son, is graduating from University and securing a three year teaching contract with the company that I did a work placement with while I was studying.  I would never have expected to secure employment so quickly.  Taking a degree at the University of Wolverhampton contributed greatly to my career achievements.”

Paulina is now working as an ESOL Tutor at RMC Refugees and Migrant Centre in Wolverhampton.  She said: “My overall experience at the University was absolutely fantastic!  I feel that I have not only grown personally and professionally, but have learnt so much from my lecturers and the other students I’ve met.”
