Academic surveys a new role in global organisation

A University of Wolverhampton academic has been elected into a top role in acknowledgement of his significant contribution to the Quantity Surveying sector.

Dr Paul Hampton, Associate Head of the School of Architecture and Built Environment in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University, has been appointed as the new Global President of Quantity Surveyors International (QSi).

QSi is the professional body for those specialising in the financial aspects of construction and engineering. The non-profit organisation has developed into an international establishment with members spanning the globe.

Paul brings a wealth of industrial experience and knowledge to the role which he will undertake whilst continuing his work at the University.

He said: “I am extremely honoured and privileged to be taking up the role of Global President.

“Quantity Surveyors and associated construction practitioners will continue to remain in demand, especially with the introduction of digital quantification and increased investment in infrastructure projects.

“Whilst the majority of members are located in the UK, I will also be looking to work with transnational members to broaden QSi’s presence and place and I look forward to welcoming boards in China and the USA into the QSi family in the near future.

“QSi is strategically placed to meet the regional, national, and international challenges for growth, and we must all collectively play a role to ensure it is recognised as part of the solution, capitalising on future opportunities.”

Paul is a Honorary Professor at Shenzhen Polytechnic and Project Director for the Built Environment Climate Change Innovations (BECCI) and Environmental Technologies and Resource Efficiency Support Service (EnTRESS ERDF) Research projects at the University. A Chartered Surveyor and the past Chair of the West Midlands branch of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Paul also sits on the RICS national flood forum and is part of the regional chairs forum.

Paul has been the Project Manager on numerous European projects and is a STEM ambassador and supporter of various initiatives to promote the Built Environment to a global audience.
