Social sciences in the spotlight

A new initiative to develop links and increase awareness of social science subjects at local schools has been launched by the University of Wolverhampton.

Teachers from schools in Shropshire and the Black Country were invited to a networking dinner to find out more about the University provision, outreach initiatives, and meet University staff from a range of subject disciplines.

The inaugural partnership dinner was hosted in the Chancellor’s Hall in Wolverhampton and attended by 70 guests, with representation from 13 schools and colleges, as well as staff from across the University.

The event celebrated the work being done, in collaboration with school and college partners, in offering outreach opportunities to young people. In addition to showcasing activities offered by the Business School, Law School and School of Social, Historical and Political Studies, there were opportunities to explore new ways of working together to provide rewarding and inspirational initiatives for young people in the year ahead.

During the current academic year the Faculty of Social Sciences delivered over 60 outreach events, involving 42 different schools and colleges, to a collective audience of over 1000 participants. Guests heard, among other things, about the Entrepreneurial Pitching Competition, Law Mooting Competition, the annual Holocaust Lecture, and the Crime and Social Injustice conferences.
