Students will have increased access to the latest developments in the sports industry after the University of Wolverhampton joined a leading sports body.

Wolverhampton has become only the fifth university to join the Sport and Recreation Alliance (SRA), which represents the views of the sports sector to Government, policy makers and the media.

The move will ensure sports students are connected to the latest development affecting the sector, including changes to policy and legislation which underpin the University’s courses, research and physical activity provision.

Dr Richard Medcalf, Director of the Institute of Human Sciences at the University, said: “Membership of the Sport and Recreation Alliance will help us to ensure that the sport offer we have at the University remains up to date, and will enable us to both influence and be influenced by the most up to date issues facing sport and recreation. I am delighted that we are only the fifth university to be approved as members and look forward to the partnerships with the alliance developing over the coming years.”

Tom Morgan, Membership Engagement Manager at Sport and Recreation Alliance, said: “We are delighted to welcome WLV Sport into the Sport and Recreation Alliance family. Universities play a massive role in getting the nation active. We look forward to celebrating the fantastic work WLV Sport do and working in collaboration with them and the wider sector into the future.”

The SRA brings together the sport and recreation sector and supports its members to tackle the challenges and take advantage of opportunities. The Alliance is  the voice of the sector with Government, policy makers and the media, and helps get the nation active at the grassroots by providing advice, support and guidance.
