Overseas students lands Youth Council role

A student from a Sri Lankan college affiliated with the University of Wolverhampton is celebrating after being elected onto a prestigious council.

Sadham Zarjahan, a student at the Colombo International Nautical & Engineering College (CINEC), has been elected as a Vice Chairperson for the Commonwealth Youth Council.

The two-year term will see Sadham represent the ‘Partnerships and Resources’ area of the council, which is the recognized voice of the 1.2 billion young people of the Commonwealth.

His role will include providing framework for youth-led development initiatives.

Sadham currently studies on the BEng (Hons) Mechatronics degree program, offered by the college in affiliation with the University of Wolverhampton’s Faculty of Science and Engineering as part of its Transnational Education scheme.

Speaking about Sadham’s achievement, Professor Ndy Ekere, Dean of the University of Wolverhampton’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, said: “Everybody connected with the Faculty is delighted to hear about Sadham’s success and we wish him the very best in his new role with the council.

“Sadham previously participated in the UN Youth Conference, with part sponsorship from the University, so we recognise what an exceptional student he is.

“Sadham’s achievement is a great example of how our Transnational Education student community is going from strength to strength, and we’re excited to follow his progress over the next two years.”

Sadham Zarjahan said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get started.

“I would like to thank the University of Wolverhampton for all of their kind support over the past few years.”
