STEM activities get a fair bit of attention at Big Bang UK

05/04/2018

The University of Wolverhampton’s School of Sciences took part in The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair recently.

The Big Bang Fair held at the NEC in Birmingham aims to inspire young people to consider a career in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Visitors to the Fair were able to explore all aspects of STEM, including a host of different hands-on activities, interactive workshops and stage shows.

Dr Martin Khechara, Fellow of Public Engagement for STEM, led a team from the Wolverhampton School of Sciences to support the Health Education England Stand with interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities aimed at engaging the audience.

Dr Khechara said:  “This was a fantastic opportunity for the University of Wolverhampton to showcase the variety of courses delivered by the School of Sciences and to highlight how these can lead to a range of career options in a healthcare setting.

“Hundreds of people visited the stand over the four days of the show and the team received extremely positive feedback from young people, teachers, parents and other exhibitors.”

Students from the University also supported the event.  The STEM Ambassadors took part in the activities, helping to develop their skills in science communication whilst at the same time offering them the chance to enthuse the next generation of scientists.

Anyone wanting to study in the School of Sciences should register for the next Open Day on Saturday 21st April 2018.
