Lecture to explore role of Medical Corps during First World War

A lecture to explore the work of the Royal Army Medical Corps during the First World War will take place at the University of Wolverhampton.
Dr Jessica Meyer from the University of Leeds will present a public lecture on Wednesday, 7 March 2018 from 5.30-7pm.
The lecture, titled 'From No Man's Land to Auxiliary Hospital: The Work of the Royal Army Medical Corps in the First World War’, will take place in room MC001 in the Millennium City Building.
Gary Sheffield, Professor of War Studies, said: “We tend to think about the British Army of the First World War in terms of the infantry, foot soldiers going over the top. It is important to remember that there was also a vast supporting infrastructure. The ‘medics’ of the RAMC were a vital part of this set up.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr Jessica Meyer, who is one of the leading scholars in the field. She will be looking at the work of the Medical Corps over the course of the war to explore the extent to which it experienced a ‘learning curve’ similar to the way that the fighting troops dramatically improved their combat performance.
“I am looking forward to Dr Meyer sharing her cutting-edge work on one of the more neglected parts of the army in the Great War.”
This is the 13th lecture of the University of Wolverhampton/Western Front Association First World War Centenary Lecture Series. Generously supported by a grant from the WFA, the Series is held at the University of Wolverhampton, is open to the public, and will run until the end of 2018.
