Schools get a taste of University life

The University of Wolverhampton hosted a Schools and Colleges Open Day recently offering students across the region a taste of higher education courses.

Almost 300 students and staff from Wednesfield High School, Pool Hayes Academy in Willenhall, Moseley Park in Bilston, ACE Academy in Tipton, Regent College and the University sponsored West Midlands University Technical College, attended the event at the University’s City Campus in Wolverhampton.

Taster sessions were delivered across the University’s four Faculties including an introduction to Nursing, opportunities in Sport, an analysis of bones in Anthropology and DNA, an introduction to Android programming, an overview of Gore and the Law and planning a career in the Media.

Michelle White, Events Manager at the University, said: “Our Schools and Colleges Open Day offers students a range of exciting sessions to showcase the breadth of courses we offer at the University. We also offered talks on finances and gave the visitors a tour of the facilities.

“Our aim through offering these events is to highlight the many opportunities that are available and we were really impressed with how engaged everyone was in the sessions we put on.”

Eleanor Harris, Assistant Leader of Post-16 at Moseley Park, said:  “The students really enjoyed themselves and got a lot out of the event.  I’ve had some lovely feedback from the pupils and they’re all enthused about the University and their futures now.”

Anyone interested in studying at the University should attend the next Open Day on 17^th February 2018.
