Gold for Jodie!

A University of Wolverhampton student is celebrating after winning gold at a European championships.

Jodie Caller won the final of the Women’s 52kg to 57kg category at The European Universities Games which are taking place in Coimbra in Portugal.

 

She clinched the gold medal against Spain’s Maitane Herrero Zapiain on Tuesday (24 July).

After her win, Jodie tweeted: “Wow! What a day!! Gold at the European University Games!”

Sports Manager at the University James Dale, tweeted: “Wow – what a fantastic achievement, Jodie. We are really proud of you!”

The 21-year-old is studying a BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching degree at the Walsall Campus.

The European Universities Games Coimbra 2018 are Europe’s largest university sport event of the year, and the largest multisport event ever organised in Portugal.

Over 4,000 participants from Europe’s leading sport universities are competing in 13 sports between July 15 and 28, 2018. 

The European Universities Games is a multisport event involving athletes from European universities, held every two years, hosted in different European university cities. 

The University’s next Open Day is on Saturday, 18 August 2018.
