Technology leader honoured with degree award
A pioneer for technological innovation has been awarded an honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton for her services.
Naomi Climer CBE, an engineer and leader, has been awarded a Doctor of Engineering in recognition of her contribution and achievements in the communications and engineering industry.
Naomi’s career has been spent in the broadcast and communications technology industry and includes technology leadership roles at the BBC, ITV and Sony both in Europe and the United States.
Currently, she focuses on the role that technology will play in the future and advocates for technology as a force for positive change.
Naomi is co-chair of the Institute for the Future of Work, Non-Executive Director at Focusrite Plc and Sony UK Technology Centre, past President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Trustee at the Royal Academy of Engineering, Governor of the National Film and Television School and Chair of Council at the International Broadcasting Convention.
She was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2018 and was listed in The Telegraph’s and Women’s Engineering Society’s 50 Most Influential Women in UK Engineering in 2016 and in Computer Weekly’s 50 Most Influential Women in UK IT 2015 and 2016.
Naomi said: “I’m really delighted to receive this honour from the University of Wolverhampton – a university with a motto - ‘Innovation and opportunity’. I’ve spent a career working to bring the innovation and opportunity of engineering and technology to a wider audience, so this recognition is really appreciated.”
Honorary awards are presented by the University of Wolverhampton to people who have made a significant contribution to their field of expertise.
The University’s graduation ceremonies take place at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, from Thursday 13th September to Friday 21st September 2018.
