The University of Wolverhampton has struck a new partnership deal with neighbours Walsall Cricket Club.

The three-year sponsorship agreement will create new opportunities for students to gain coaching, volunteering and other experience with the Club.

Through the partnership, the Cricket Club will have access to the University’s academic expertise for player analysis, testing and research.

The University’s logo will appear on senior playing shirts and the partners will explore working together on outreach activities with local schools.

Walsall Cricket Club is based in Gorway Road, next to the University’s Walsall Campus which specialises in sports, education, nursing and performing arts courses.

Dr Richard Medcalf, Director of the Institute of Human Sciences at the University, said: “I’m delighted that we have signed a new wide-ranging partnership agreement with Walsall Cricket Club. The club are a huge part of the sporting landscape in the town and we hope our new agreement will support their ambitions and likewise provide some excellent opportunities for students studying sports related degree courses on our Walsall Campus.”

David Middleton, President of Walsall Cricket Club, said: “We are absolutely delighted to partner with our close neighbours the University of Wolverhampton who are a huge presence in the town. The partnership will help us to achieve our goals both on and off the pitch and offer sports students the chance to work with our players on an academic level and also utilise our facilities.”
