Families flock to the city for fun day

The “In The City Day” event, organised by the University of Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, the Mander Centre, and Signal 107 Radio, took place this half-term in the Lower Mall of the Mander Centre.

The event was aimed at families with the purpose of celebrating the City of Wolverhampton through fun activities, games, and demonstrations. Organisers estimate there were around 2,000 attendees throughout the day.

Representatives from the University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, Faculty of Arts, as well as the University of Wolverhampton Race Team (UWR), attended, offering interactive activities and demonstrations relating to their course offerings.

The event was hosted by Signal 107 DJ Dicky Dodd, and featured face-painting, caricature artists, music, fairground games, arts & crafts, beauty demonstrations, and a penalty shootout challenge with the Wolves Foundation.

Later in the day there was an appearance and meet & greet session with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, featuring star first-team players Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Vinagre, attracting queues around the mall.

Katharine Clough, Director of External Relations at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “The In the City Day provided a fantastic showcase for some of the best the city has to offer and it was a real pleasure to work closely with our partners, Wolves Football Club and the Mander Centre to create a fun and exciting day for people visiting Wolverhampton during half term.

“There was a real buzz around the city with lots of families coming along to enjoy meeting Wolves first-team players as well as getting involved in the range of activities which were on offer including fairground games, arts and crafts, beauty demos and competitions.

“The University of Wolverhampton Racing Team (UWR) showcased its Formula 3 racing car and our STEM Outreach team were unravelling the mystery of science with demonstrations.  All in all it was a fantastic day that was very well attended and hopefully traders in the city will have felt the benefits of the additional footfall.”
