A University of Wolverhampton graduate is zooming into the next stage of her career after making the most of a placement year.

Ambitious Emily Ridgway has secured a position at Mazda Motors UK within the Digital Communications Marketing team.

During her BA (Hons) Business and Marketing Management degree, Emily decided to complete an industrial placement year at automotive company ZF Lemforder to gain some experience – which led to a permanent position.

The 24-year-old says: “After my second year, I decided to complete an industrial placement year to gain some experience and give me an idea of which industry I would like to work in. I did this with ZF Lemforder in their purchasing team, and eight months into my placement, they offered me a permanent position and I was with them for just over two years.

“I would definitely recommend a placement year; the University gave me so much support in finding my placement, making sure my CV was to a high standard and helping me with practice interviews. It was also good to put some of the knowledge I learnt on the course to good use!”

She started her new job with Mazda Motors UK in January, and has relocated to London.

Emily, from Wolverhampton, adds: “My University experience was fantastic. I learnt so much and gained invaluable work experience. Some of the services available like the placement centre were really helpful and they offered so much support and guidance.

“Throughout my time at University one of my lecturers, Sarah Williams, was always on hand to give support and advice. I even emailed Sarah after I had graduated for some tips on the Mazda marketing position I was applying for and she was as helpful as always so a big thank you to Sarah!  The highlight of my University experience for me was achieving a First overall and now working towards my dream job.”
