Leading experts in early years education are to discuss the challenges facing children today at a University of Wolverhampton event.

The Early Years Conference will take place at the University’s Walsall Campus on Saturday, 29 June 2019.

The annual event, titled Pedagogy, curriculum and the art of teaching in early childhood, is aimed at practitioners, professionals, academics and students who are interested in the subject or work in the early years sector.

Keynote speakers include Sir Al Aynsley-Green, the first-ever children's commissioner for England, who has over 40 years of experience working with governments and organisations worldwide on children, childhood and children’s services, and June O’Sullivan MBE, chief executive of the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF). June has been instrumental in achieving a major strategic, pedagogical and cultural shift for the award winning social enterprise nursery group, resulting in an increased profile, new childcare model and stronger social impact over the past ten years.

Both of the keynote speakers will lead discussions around the challenges facing children today.

Tracey Edwards, Senior Lecturer in Childhood, Families and Communities, said: “The conference is going from strength to strength. We are delighted to have engaged two such inspirational speakers to set the tone for the conference. We have a wider range of seminars and workshops on offer this year, blending theory and practice focusing on improving outcomes for our youngest children.”

Topics of workshops at the conference will include phonics, creating provocations, embedding early maths, and the Early Years Pupil Premium.
