Academic joins experts on digital panel

A University of Wolverhampton academic will be part of a panel of experts at an event designed to switch local businesses in Telford on to digital.

Bruce Daisley, the European vice-president for social media giant Twitter, is heading up the impressive panel of experts lined up for the ‘Get Digital – Survive or Thrive’ event in Telford on 20 March 2019.

He will be joined by Steve Garner from the School of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Wolverhampton, Parmjit Chima, the head of agri-tech at Harper Adams University, Virtual Reality company boss Tim Luft and a representative from Telford-based digital manufacturer Protolabs.

The panel will discuss the impact that digital transformation is having on businesses across the region and give expert advice on how to embrace it during a special session chaired by business journalist Carl Jones.

The free event which has been organised by the Marches Growth Hub is taking place at Enginuity in Ironbridge and will feature a keynote speech from Mr Daisley, hands-on workshop sessions, an expo and networking sessions.

Steve Garner, Principal Lecturer in Computer Science at the University, said: “This event is a brilliant opportunity for companies to get Digital, either through improving communications across their supply chain or with their customers.

“I am sure the University will benefit from working closely with the 150 registered companies from across the Marches and Telford in enabling them to thrive going forward.”

Claire Critchell, manager of the Marches Growth Hub Telford & Wrekin, which is delivered by Telford & Wrekin Council, said the event had already attracted huge interest.  “The response we have had from across the county has been fantastic and is testament to the quality of the speakers we have assembled.

“Bruce Daisley and the high-calibre panel of experts can not only explain the latest technology – they can give first-hand accounts of how they are using it and the benefits it is bringing their businesses.”
