Entrepreneur receives Uni honour

One of the founders of Wolverhampton charity The Way Youth Zone has been honoured by the city's University.

Businessman Roy Delisser Bernard is also the founder and owner of Select Healthcare Group.

He received an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration at a graduation ceremony at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Wednesday, 18 September 2019.

Roy was honoured in recognition of his entrepreneurial approach to business in the residential care home field and his dedication to the young people of the City of Wolverhampton through his work with The Way Youth Zone.

He said: "I am very proud to accept this award from the University of Wolverhampton."

Roy Bernard is the founder and owner of Select Healthcare Group, with over 30 years' experience in the care industry.

Building on a business background in retail and antiques, in the mid-1980s he formed Select Healthcare Ltd with just one local care home - since then, the company has grown to become the nationwide successful organisation it is today, with 87 homes and employing over 4,000 staff.

Roy is also a founding member of the Wolverhampton charitable organisation, The Way Youth Zone. He also spends time judging on panels of the National Care Awards and was a former chairman of the Sandwell Nursing Home Association.

Honorary awards are presented by the University of Wolverhampton to people who have made a significant contribution to their field of expertise. 

The University's graduation ceremonies take place at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, from Thursday, 12 September to Friday, 20 September 2019.
