University Business School starts Covid-19 support hub to help businesses

15/12/2020

As the coronavirus pandemic hit, the Business School at the University of Wolverhampton wanted to help support businesses in the West Midlands to adapt and recover during such challenging times.

In response to this, they created the Covid-19 Business Support Hub which has delivered free support, including e-clinics, podcasts and blogs, which draw on years of research and practical business experience.

Emma Bloomfield, Head of Executive Education said: “With the e-clinics and content being provided through the Covid-19 Business Support Hub we’ve tried to pick topics which are relevant for right now. For example, there’s leadership training and for one of the session’s we’ve focused on being an authentic leader.

“There’s a range of material available, including on finances, branding and coaching.

“We’ve had great feedback from participants and we’re seeing some coming to multiple sessions which is really positive and shows these sessions are helpful.

“In the podcasts that we’re producing, we’re looking at adjusting business models in different sectors. For the first one, we had Manoj Koeri from Manoj Yoga sharing the impact on the establishment’s experiences and plans for the future. These are also being really well received and we look forward to launching the series in January.”

The Business School is also planning to launch a vodcast series which will feature members of the Management Research Centre at the University. Each of the vodcasts will focus on a different specialism that the staff bring to the Centre.

“One of the major aims with the content we’ve been creating,” added Emma, “is focusing on breaking down complicated language and learnings so that they are fully accessible to the businesses and people that they will benefit.

“All too often, important research is being undertaken by academics, and their findings are important and impactful, but as the language and presentation isn’t broken down enough, it’s not picked-up by those in industry.

“With the Covid-19 Business Support Hub and the content coming out of the Business School, we’d working to ensure that it’s accessible, relevant and engaging.”
