Virtual conference explores the future of construction

The University of Wolverhampton is exploring the future of construction in its second free international conference which, this year, will be held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2nd International Conference on Construction Futures (ICCF2020) will take place on Tuesday 7th July 2020 from 1.30 pm until 8.00 pm (UK time) and is being supported by the Construction Futures Research Centre, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and CIB International Council for Research and Innovation.

Keynote speakers include a range of experts from across the globe including the UK, USA, Canada and Australia, who will present on a range of topics covering process improvement, emerging technologies, new opportunities in innovation, directions for educating future professionals and emerging developments offsite – all set against a backdrop of the current global crisis and how the industry can learn lessons for future resilience.

Professor Mohammed Arif, Head of the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University, said: “The construction sector is experiencing an unprecedented time. This has the potential to lead the industry into a transformational era in the short and medium term.

“The COVID-19 crisis has also highlighted the issue of remote working and online communication. Holding the conference on a virtual platform is a step forward for the industry, demonstrating that the construction sector of the future has the potential to work differently, making better use of technology and using alternative ways of communicating and disseminating knowledge.”
