West Midlands businessman honoured by University

A West Midlands entrepreneur has been honoured by the University of Wolverhampton for his commitment to championing training and skills in the local community.  

Martin Dudley, Chief Executive Officer at the Thomas Dudley Group Limited, received an Honorary Fellowship from the University.  

The award was presented at a graduation ceremony at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Thursday, 9 September 2021.  

Martin Dudley was born in Sedgley and is a Trustee of Dudley Academies Trust. He was recognised by the University for championing training and development. 

Martin, who is also a graduate of the University, said: “We should always be learning. I believe learning is the brain’s gym. The more we mentally push ourselves with purposeful practice the fitter our minds will be.” 

Martin Dudley is CEO at the Thomas Dudley Group Limited, a well-established fourth generation family business that employs almost 500 people.  

The company manufacturers for the building and plumbing industry, water companies, and trade OEM customers and turned over £50m in 2019.  

Within the group there are two modern iron foundries and two plastic injection moulding businesses.  

Martin took an MBA through the University of Wolverhampton and is passionate about increasing the skills both within his businesses and also the local area.  

He works closely with schools, colleges, the University and trade associations, most notably helping to establish the first foundry training college of the last 30 years. 

The University of Wolverhampton graduation ceremonies are taking place at the Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton from Thursday 9 September – Friday 17 September 2021.  

The 17 ceremonies will see over 3,000 students who completed their studies in 2020 collect their awards.  

It is the first time the University has held a graduation ceremony since December 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
