Ramadan Readiness event in the Glasshouse

In addition to the event organised in preparation for Ramadan, the Chaplaincy and Students' Union have planned a series of activities and services to support students and staff during this sacred month.

At the Readiness for Ramadan event held in the Glasshouse earlier this week, Imam Mohammad, our Muslim Chaplain, provided a update on the facilities available for prayers and silent reflection, as well as the spiritual and pastoral care offered by Chaplaincy. The event was well attended by staff and students who were able to network over refreshments; learn how they can get involved in upcoming religious events, and how they can benefit from all the services that are on offer.

Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims across the world in which adults fast from early dawn to sunset and it ends with a festival of Eid. Ramadhan is expected to commence from Saturday 1 March and Eid will be marked on Sunday 30 March 2025 (dates subject to sighting of the moon).

To further engage the University community, the Chaplaincy will be hosting a weekly Iftar (breaking of the fast) every Thursday evening. This will provide an opportunity for students and staff to come together and share a meal during Ramadan. Additionally, a Big Iftar will be held on Monday 10 March at the SU, which promises to be a festive and inclusive event.

These initiatives aim to foster a sense of belonging and create a supportive environment for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. It is through events like these that new friendships can be formed and a stronger community can be built within the University.
