Celebrating buddying and mentoring successes across the University

40 students from the University of Wolverhampton came together to celebrate the support that they had either given or received as buddies and mentors.

On Monday 22 May 2023, 40 students joined together to celebrate the success of the Buddying and Mentor system. The mentoring scheme runs across the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) and the Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences (FABSS), specifically those from the Institute of Directors (IoD) Business School. Students were praised for their success in the roles of study buddy or mentor working in collaboration with mentees.

FSE student study buddies and mentors as seen in the above picture had worked with level 3, 4 and 5 students to support their sense of belongingness making a real difference in retention and progression on their courses. Students were excited to share their stories of all the different activities that had been offered, which are supported by Academic Coaches, to help build a more supportive community in FSE.

IoD mentors, in the below picture, had worked with students on a one to one basis over the last year with enhancing their CV, their graduate job applications and training/support for mock interviews. Students involved shared their good news stories with one mentor landing a graduate job at Price Waterhouse Coopers, another creating their own digital analyst role and two students getting the opportunity to work within HR, whilst the companies pay for them to start their Masters at the University too.

Thank you to everyone involved for supporting our students to improve their chances of success.
