The Doctoral College invites students from across the to join us for our inaugural WLV Talks on the 15th June, 2023, between 10 am and 1 pm in MC001.

WLV Talks takes its lead from Ted Talks and offers short, inspirational conversations around the theme ‘this is my story’. The speakers are sharing their unique stories, and how this has led to the work and research that each now does.  We are joined by:

  • Adam Vasco – Director of Diversity & Inclusion in Professional Practice (Faculty of Education, Health & Well-being). Adam tells us his story of researching within the Global Majority population and his reflections on what he has learned.
  • Deborah Littley – Postgraduate Researcher in Education, tells us her story of being a female mature student and how this has influenced what she chose to research in her doctorate.
  • Loreal Stokes – That’s Me Project Leader, shares her story that led her to be passionate about Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Mark Dobson – Postgraduate Researcher in Education, relates his story of access course to doctorate, and how he challenged a ‘no aspiration’ rhetoric.
  • Roya Rahimi - Reader in Marketing and Leisure Management, discusses her story of undergraduate to Reader, which took her from Iran to Sweden, Sweden to Turkey, and Turkey to the UK.

In addition to the five WLV Talks, we are excited to announce that we will be joined by Dr R. M. Francis, who will share his poetry.
