The Power of Colour: 40 Years of Black and Asian Artistic Expression

Following the launch of The More Things Change exhibition of work by the Blk Art Group at Wolverhampton Art Gallery link here.The day’s celebrations and informal conversations will continue through to the evening at the Wolverhampton School of Art.

Led by Art and Design students of colour; the afternoon programme will consist of exhibitions, film screenings, music, food and conversation, placing the voice of the next generation of artists, makers and designers of colour at its centre.

This Eventbrite ticket secures your place for the Film Screening and In Conversations taking place between 4.30pm - 6.40pm. No ticket is required for the exhibition launch, Reading Room and Celebration event.

Running order of events:

3.30pm - 4.30pm, Foyer & Lecture theatre The Power of Colour: Exhibition Launch

This exhibition will connect creativity and experiences of students from across the UK. Launched by Alina Ahmad.

4.30pm - 5.30pm, Lecture Theatre Three Songs on Pain, Time and Light: Film Screening

A video portrait of artist Donald Rodney made in 1995 by Trevor Mathison and Edward George, produced with the Black Audio Film Collective. Preceded by an introduction and discussion with Trevor Mathison and Ian Sergeant.

5.40pm - 6.40pm, Lecture Theatre ‘The Power of Colour’ student panel conversation

A panel conversation with art and design students discussing their practice; Christian Azolan, Farrah Akbarali, Melina Merlin Paesler, Shannon Ward and Chandni Raithatha.

6.40pm - 8.30pm, Café and Foyer Food, performances and DJs

An opportunity to network and connect with performances (TBC), DJs and food.

3.00pm - 8.30pm Reading Room, Bessant Gallery, Ground Floor

A quiet space containing books, magazines and archival material designed by students and led by Khadijah Kouser and Simran Samra.
