13/02/2023

Wolves footballer, Hwang Hee-chan, surprised a group of international students at the University of Wolverhampton during their tour of Molineux.

Hwang is a South Korean professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Premier League club, as well as the South Korean national team.

Last week, 40 students from South Korea toured Molineux as part of their stay with the University.

As the students gathered to capture a group photograph, to their shock and amazement, outwalked Hwang to join them in their photo.

The forward also signed autographs and appeared in countless ‘selfies’ with the group of emotional students, excited to meet their sporting hero.

Sooan, aged 26, who is currently on the University’s semester abroad programme from Chunbuk National University, said: “Hwang is our treasure, he is the most famous player and it’s such an honour to have met him. The whole day has been a fantastic experience and I thank the university for this perfect surprise.”

Adam Yardley Senior Lecturer and Short Courses Leader at the University of Wolverhampton said: “The Premier League has a massive profile in Korea, and the students, if not Wolves supporters before they arrive, they certainly leave as their biggest fans.

“Thanks to the partnership we have with Wolves, we are able to provide students with opportunities and experiences they will never forget and to be able to get Hwang to surprise them on this special occasion, really was the icing on the cake.”

Russel Jones, Wolves’ general manager of marketing and commercial growth, said: “Hee Chan Hwang’s performances at the World Cup and at Wolves, have really helped the club’s popularity spike in Korea, so it was a pleasure to welcome students from Chunbuk National University to Molineux.  I’m delighted they had the chance to meet one of their national heroes and I hope they all leave as Wolves fans and with special memories of their time in Wolverhampton.”

The students are currently studying at the University on its English Language Winter School and Semester Abroad programmes and have travelled from a number of partner universities in South Korea including Kyungil University, Hanbat National University, Hoseo University, Incheon National University, Chunbuk National University, Dongguk University, Gachon University, Hanbat National University and Jeonbuk National University.
