Class of 2023: Graduate turns the page and bags a new career

20/09/2023

Paige Hall, 27, from Wolverhampton, has turned the page with the aim of bagging a new career after graduating with a degree in Early Childhood Studies.

Paige had been working in retail since leaving college but she had always wanted to work with children in primary teaching. Having been put off going to university, she studied for a few different qualifications before leaving education and starting work.

She said: “I spent a few years working in retail and then realised that there had to be more to life than this.  I had always really wanted to go to university so I decided I would move back home to live with my mum and, after a few conversations at Open Days and with staff at the University of Wolverhampton, I decided to go for it.

“I studied for an Early Childhood Studies with Foundation Year first for a year to give me some grounding and to help me transition on to the undergraduate level degree so that brings my studies full time to four years – and sometimes that was challenging, especially as I was still working in retail part time.

“The lecturers were really supportive and the course was really interactive

“Having time out of education and then realising that this was actually something I really wanted to do has really spurred me on to think about new careers. The degree is so broad that you can go down different routes so I’m now doing an add-on year to qualify as a teacher and then I can work in nurseries, go down the management route or even become a Play Therapist.

“My aim is to eventually work with children in Dubai.  I’d definitely recommend going to university to anyone.  Just do it now.”
