International Student Update: Information for students in the UK and those studying from their home

I hope you are keeping safe and well. We currently have international students studying in the UK and their home country and this update is for both groups. This update covers:

  • Return to campus update - for international students currently in the UK
  • Travelling to England - for international students studying in their home country
  • Enrolling on your course
  • Engaging with your studies and monitoring attendance
  • Updating your contact details
  • Accessing your IT essentials
  • Wellbeing support

Return to campus update - for international students currently in the UK

The UK Governmentroadmapconfirmed that students on practical courses who require access to specialist facilities could return to campusfor in person teachingfrom Monday, 8 March.  All other courses will continue to be taught online, and you should not return to campus unless you need to return for health and wellbeing reasons or do not have appropriate access to study space in your current accommodation.

Students are advised to check their timetable in the MyWLV app for the latest details for teaching on their course.

For those students who will return to in person teaching, please take some time to familiarise yourselves with the University’s guidance for on campus safety and Covid-19 testing in our recent update.

Travelling to England - for international students studying in their home country

International students who have remained in their home country are advised not to travel to the University and continue their course online. We will send regular updates as we receive them to let you know when you can travel to the UK.

It is essential that you complete your enrolment as soon as possible and that you have access to the appropriate IT equipment and Wi-Fi connection to engage with your studies effectively.

Please check the Gov.uk webpages regularly to ensure you stay up to date with the latest information and guidance.

Enrolling on your course

All students are required to enrol at the start of their course and the beginning of each academic year. This year you can do this online before arriving on campus.

Until you are enrolled, we cannot create your personal timetable, and you will not be able to access online study materials. Delaying your enrolment could also have an adverse effect on your sponsorship.

Enrolment instructions

Enrolment and module registration can be completed in e:Vision

  • Log in to your e:Vision
  • Select the Enrolment button on the home page.
  • Add your personal details and complete all the required steps.

After you arrive in the UK and have completed your self isolation period, you will need to upload a copy of your biometric residence permit (BRP) to fully complete your enrolment.

You can find further instructions, including a step-by-step video guide on how to enrol here: www.wlv.ac.uk/enrol-online

If you are experiencing any difficulties completing the enrolment process, you should contact your Faculty Student Services via the e:Vision Helpdesk.

Engaging with your studies and monitoring attendance

If you are studying on a tier 4 or student route visa, you are required by the Home Office and the University to fully engage with your programme, which includes attendance at all of your timetabled classes and online sessions in Canvas.

Poor attendance or failure to engage with your programme will impact your visa and your permission to remain in, or travel to, the UK. Attendance at all timetabled events, including online sessions, is monitored via an electronic register system compiled by your lecturers.

If you are withdrawn from your course through this procedure, your visa will be cancelled, and you will be required to leave or lose permission to travel to the UK

Updating your contact details

To support the welfare of all our students, your contact details must always be kept up to date. Please ensure that where you live now (even if this is only temporary) is recorded in your term time address (this may, or may not be, the same as your permanent home address).

  • Log in to your e:Vision
  • Select the My Details button on the home page menu.
  • Select the View/Edit Personal Information button
  • Use the Edit buttons to update each section

Guidance for new students (and those who need a reminder)

Students can now watch a short video that includes useful links to where you can find facilities and support. This video DOES NOT replace your course inductions which can usually be found under the Conferences section of your course topic in Canvas.

The video includes links for:
