The University of Wolverhampton is now part of the UK Healthy Universities Network thanks to a successful application made by Amena Dilmohamed and Joanna Harrison (Public Health).

The UK Healthy Universities Network began informally in 2006 when a small group of Higher Education Institutes interested in developing healthy universities met up to discuss some of the challenges they were facing and share current practice.

From there the network has grown and strengthened, and now includes other stakeholder organisations and universities from overseas as associate members.

The network aims to create a learning environment and organisational culture which enhances health, wellbeing and sustainability among those institutions which belong to it.

This is achieved by the exchange of information, guidance, research, practice and experience amongst those universities which incorporate health into their vision and strategic plans.

Amena Dilmohamed, Principal Lecturer Head of Public Health (curriculum) said: “This is a great opportunity for staff and students to engage in Health Promotion activities, which will complement our public health curriculum and benefit our students with an enhanced learning experience.   By enabling students and staff to understand and appreciate the many approaches of public health, this raises awareness of the Healthy Universities agenda.”

Dr Ranjit Khutan, Principal Lecturer Head of Public Health (Outreach & Engagement) added: “We are delighted that our application to join the UK Healthy Universities Network has been successful. Colleagues and partners have already expressed an interest in engaging in collaborative activities which will benefit our outreach & engagement agenda with our local community and others involved in the business of public health.”

The network aspires to create a learning environment and organisational culture that enhances health, wellbeing and sustainability. For further details please contact Amena and Ranjit.
