University app achieves GOLD status due to its high user rating

Uswitch experts have analysed which university apps are the best rated and offer the most features for students and users and the University of Wolverhampton’s MyWLV app has achieved Gold status due to its high user rating. 

MyWLV is currently available to all University of Wolverhampton students who are fully enrolled on an undergraduate or postgraduate course, and research students, and offers information including, assessment deadlines, email, Student Check in (digital register), VLE topic subscriptions, links to key resources (room booking, library resources, PC availability) and many more. 

20 university apps achieved Platinum or Gold status. 

Recent statistics have found that there are approximately 2.86 million students in the UK studying at higher education institutions. For many students, online learning and study apps have become an integral part of their learning. The majority of universities in the UK offer an accompanying app to assist students with their university experience. 

A report compiled by the Uswitch mobiles team has granted the fifty largest universities in the UK one of four tier awards (platinum, gold, silver and bronze) based on accessibility, features and popularity of their accompanying apps. They also looked at the following: 

• Total downloads of the app in relation to university population 
• Average rating of the app across the Apple App store and Google Play store 
• Amount of reviews given across both app stores  
• No. of features the application has (from a pre-determined features list) 

Gold universities: Useful & highly rated 

Gold universities have high overall app ratings and downloads and the majority of necessary features. 

The MyWLV app achieved gold status with the majority of features and a higher-than-average user rating of 4.1 out of a maximum 5.0 points. 

In a recent University of Wolverhampton Jisc Student Digital Insights survey, 79% of respondents (1,167 students) rated the usability of myWLV as Good (31%), Excellent (33%) or Best Imaginable (15.6%).
