Collaboration launches groundbreaking Medical Academic Training Pathway
The University of Wolverhampton and the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to launch a joint medical academic training facility, creating a transformative 6-year BS-MD pathway for aspiring medical professionals.
This innovative partnership will offer eligible students a fast-tracked route to becoming qualified doctors, beginning with a 2-year accelerated Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree at the University of Wolverhampton, followed by direct entry into semester two of AUC’s 4-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme. Students will benefit from clinical training opportunities across the UK, USA, and global health electives, culminating in progression to the US National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) or the UK’s General Medical Council (GMC) Foundation Year training pathways.
The programme is designed to attract high-achieving students from the UK and internationally, with targeted recruitment in the UAE, Morocco, India, and the UK. Students will also be eligible for substantial scholarships.
Professor Ebrahim Adia, Vice Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, said:
“This strategic partnership reflects our commitment to expanding global opportunities for our students and reinforces our social mobility objectives. By co-designing a pathway that integrates academic excellence with international clinical experience, we are preparing future doctors to meet the demands of a global healthcare landscape.”
Dr. Mark Rosenberg, Dean of the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, added:
"We are proud to collaborate with the University of Wolverhampton on this unique pathway, designed to help students achieve their dreams of becoming physicians. By combining a high-quality, accelerated academic program with a shared commitment to a supportive and compassionate learning environment, we are creating the conditions for student success. Our ultimate goal is to educate future physicians who will deliver exceptional, empathetic care and make a lasting impact on the communities they serve."
The first cohort is expected to begin in Autumn 2026.
