Sport in Walsall

If you’re a sports lover, you’ll be well catered for at our Walsall Campus with our sports and physical health courses supported by the latest facilities and equipment, not to mention inspiring and informed staff. From our 3G pitch to the Judo Centre for Excellence, we’ve got all bases covered. Head to the Sports Centre on campus to get the low-down on all the facilities and classes available to you: whether you’re a serious athlete, like to be competitive, or just want to drop in occasionally.

If you’ve got a competitive streak, you could join one of the teams in the national British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition programme, representing the University of Wolverhampton. Get in touch with WLV Sport to find out what teams are recruiting this year: it could be football, basketball, futsal, judo…

Want to burn some calories or just have some fun at an organised class? The University offers a wide range of group exercise classes on-site throughout the week. So you can easily find something to fit into your day, whether a HIIT workout, functional fitness or Pilates.

If gym membership is what you’re after, as a student you can get access to the University’s facilities from only £10 a month: a great saving compared to many other private gyms, and conveniently on-site too. There’s a fitness suite, weights room and sports halls, as well as badminton, table tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. There’s also a 3G football pitch and six land 200m sprint track. Take a tour of the brand-new floodlit netball courts.

Walk, run, skip… it’s your choice
Malvern may have its Hills, Telford may have its Wrekin, but Walsall has the Barr Beacon, so get outside for some fresh air and amazing views! We were spoilt over the summer with great weather, but even if it’s not so sunny, getting outdoors and stretching your legs will do you, your health, and your studies, the world of good.

Head out to nearby Palfrey Park or check out the gorgeous autumnal colour at Walsall Arboretum, where you can also join the fun with Parkrun every Saturday at 9am. If you’re a nature-lover, head to Park Lime Pits park and nature reserve – you never know what you might see and can get involved with events like bat walks and forage trails.

Join a board meeting
If you’re looking for something a little outside the ordinary, you can try your hand at sailing, windsurfing and canoeing, with Walsall Outdoor Pursuits. Or let off some steam with some indoor climbing at Boulder Central in West Bromwich, only 15 minutes’ drive from campus. For something truly different, why not head to Cliff Lakes, where you can have fun in their Aqua Park, swim, waterski or surf, or join the paddleboarding revolution to restore your calm.

Find your local club

If you can’t resist a tribute act, like to get dressed up, or perhaps like to hear from some inspiring names from the sporting world like Kevin Keegan or Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, head down to Walsall FC - The Venue to experience some of the eclectic entertainment they have on offer. Or what better way to spend your weekend than supporting your local team or rediscovering the love of playing sport? Whether you’re cheering on Walsall FCWalsall Rugby Club or Willenhall Wanderers netball team, you’ll instantly find you belong to a new family.
